This colonial square, which owes its name to the Father of the Homeland, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (his statue is in the center of the square), is the main tourist point. It is a meeting place for street vendors, musicians, strollers, schoolchildren and also for jineteros and jineteras. Around it are the city hall, the cathedral, the old San Carlos club, the house of the Adelantado Diego Velasquez, founder of the city, the city hall and the Casagranda hotel.
