TUA PEKONG TEMPLE
Built in 1923, this shrine is dedicated to Da Ba Gong, the god of prosperity, and GuanYin, revered here as Sung Tzu Niang, "she who gives children". Every year, during the ninth lunar month (October-November), thousands of Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian devotees make a pilgrimage here to invoke the five principles of life: wealth, longevity, virtue, serenity and fulfilled destiny. The temple, with its colorful roofs and sculpted dragons, is distinguished by its richly decorated altars and atmosphere of intense devotion.
