Surrounded by the skyscrapers of Shenton Way, this temple offers a breath of spirituality and meditation in the heart of downtown. The "Temple of the Calm Sea" (Yu Huang Gong) is a Taoist-Buddhist sanctuary built between 1852 and 1855, when it was located on the seashore. It is dedicated to Mazu, Goddess of the Sea, as well as to Guan Yin and Tua Peh Kong. The roof, beautifully decorated with pagodons and scenes of Chinese village life, is populated by dragons and mythological animals. Inside, at the far end of the temple, you'll find the Mazu altar.
