When M.J. Francis disembarked from his steamboat in the late 1940s, he thought he was going to open a restaurant like the one he had at home in Kerala. Since 1949, Kerala Restaurant has been serving typical and traditional meals on banana leaves. The restaurant is now run by the descendants. Dosai (pancakes) and vadai (doughnuts) are served for breakfast, when the kerala meal is used as lunch. At the end of your meal, don't forget to fold the banana leaf to indicate that you are finished.
