At the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, Johor Bahru occupies a strategic position that makes it one of the richest cities on the peninsula. An undeniable center of commerce, the city suffers culturally. Founded in 1855 by Sultan Abu Bakar, it is divided into two parts by Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. To the right lies the peaceful old town, adorned with a few emblematic monuments, while to the left, the hustle and bustle of commerce enlivens the small boutiques. Johor Bahru is also renowned as a key gateway to Singapore. Since 1956, a 38 km bridge has linked these two neighboring cities.
