Ipoh is very well served by train and one can easily reach Kuala Lumpur in the south, or Butterworth (for Penang) and Thailand in the north. There is a train every hour or so to Kuala Lumpur which reaches the capital in 2.5 hours. Several trains a day leave for Butterworth and make the trip in just over 3 hours. Like Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh station is worth a visit. This big white meringue dates back to 1917 and represents the Anglo-Indian style beautifully. The inhabitants of Ipoh nickname it "Taj Mahal".
