BANDARA MISKIIY

Adjacent to the Theemuge, the former presidential residence, the Bandara Mosque is singular. It is recognizable by its red-tiled roof with a green-painted openwork balcony. Its architecture, unusual in the Maldives, is characterized by the presence of a veranda on three of its sides. It looks more like a Spanish residence than a mosque. Exaggerated and low, it bears witness to a time when the capital city had few inhabitants. It is easy to pass by without seeing it, hidden as it is behind its surrounding wall.
