Two hours south of Bamako. Sélingué is one of the preferred destinations of the coopérants and expatriates during the weekend. The Sélingué hydroelectric dam was until 1988, before the Construit dam was built, the country's largest dam. It provided, with a capacity of 44,8 MW, a large share of the current of the capital. Unfortunately the water level is not high enough all year round, Sélingué is unable to Produce all the time of electricity. Its construction has created a vast artificial lake of several hundred square kilometres crossing the Guinean border.
