Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916) was born in Strasbourg. He was an officer of the French army before becoming an explorer and geographer, then Catholic Catholic, hermit and linguist. On 1 December 1916, he was assassinated at the door of his hermitage in Algeria. Very quickly considered a saint, he had a long time to be truly veneration before being beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on 13 November 2005. During his eventful life, Charles de Foucaud spent 3 years in the convent of Des, between 1897 and 1900, during the construction of the monastery. A chapel is now dedicated to her.
