LE CAMP DE DHEISHEH

The Dheisheh (or Dheisha) refugee camp is located on the main road between Bethlehem and Hebron, just 3 km west of Manger Square. The camp was intended as a temporary refuge for 3,400 Palestinians who fled their villages in 1949. Today, the camp is home to some 18,000 people. Although it is in Zone A, under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli army makes regular and violent incursions, particularly at night, and will do so increasingly in 2022. The UN's UNRWA maintains schools and humanitarian services there.
