LES PLAGES D'HAÏFA
The city is bordered by 17 kilometers of beaches, an undeniable asset that contributes to Haifa's relaxed lifestyle. A series of long, landscaped promenades link the western beaches: it's a local favorite to walk south from the Bat Galim Promenade. You'll see plenty of dynamic walkers at the end of the day, when the air is cooler. It's a great walk to take in the sunset.
For swimming, there are two developed beaches to the north-west of the town: Hof HaSahket Beach and Bat Galim Beach, the most famous in town. There's also a very pretty and, as its name suggests, very quiet beach: Quiet Beach, just a few minutes from Bat Galim Beach. It is reserved for women on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and for men on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It's mixed on Saturdays.
But most bathing beaches run along the west coast: from north to south, you'll find Carmel Beach, Zamir Beach, Dado Beach and Dado South. Further south, beyond Dado South Beach, lie several kilometers of unspoilt beaches.
The best time to enjoy Haifa's beaches is from May to October. Sports activities such as surfing (Bat Galim Beach) and diving, including wreck diving, are available all year round. Most of these beaches are supervised from April onwards, from 8am to 6pm (times may vary), and it is not advisable to swim outside these hours.
