Opposite Djifer, a large island known to be one of the most beautiful in Senegal. And on this island, two villages - Dionewar and Niodior - of a Serer group renowned for being great navigators and excellent fishermen: the Niominka. With a population of about 5,000, Dionewar is almost self-sufficient thanks to agriculture and fishing. It is also an important point of clandestine traffic with the neighbouring Gambia. The mosque is quite impressive and has its importance in the region. You can reach the island from Palmarin or Toubacouta, by pirogue, whose routes are also beautiful walks in the countryside.
