PLAZA DE ARMAS

The center of the city's activity, it is decorated in its middle with a beautiful kiosk in cut stone, installed in 1948. The cathedral was begun in the 17th century. Some of its statues are made of white Carrara marble and it preserves some paintings that belonged to the Viceroy. The Palacio Municipal dates from the 19th century; its patio is adorned with a carved fountain, with three lion heads. The Palacio de Gobierno, another beautiful neoclassical building with an austere and refined pale pink façade, hosted celebrities including Benito Juárez in 1863 and 1867.
