One of the richest mines in Mexico exploited between 1586 and 1960, its entrails to be visited with knowledgeable guides
During its golden age in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was one of the richest mines in the country, a veritable treasure trove of silver, gold, iron, copper and zinc, the extraction of which required a large workforce of natives and children working in appalling conditions. Operated between 1586 and 1960 on seven levels, the mine is now partially open to visitors. As you delve deeper into its bowels, you learn more about the working conditions in the mines, thanks to very knowledgeable guides.
