Building founded in the 16th century and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, with Baroque and Neoclassical elements
Founded in the 16th century by Francisco de Montejo and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the original building suffered numerous additions and modifications over the following centuries, with both Baroque and Neoclassical elements. The tower on the right is decorated with a clock added in the 19th century. The ensemble is rather sober but its illumination in the evening is very successful. Adjacent to it is a small museum of sacred art, and on the Zócalo is a kiosk where music is often played.

Bâtiment surplombant une grande place verdoyante. La visite révèle une cathédrale qui n’est pas extraordinaire mais dont les abords immédiats sont assez agréables.

Edifice imposant du zocalo, la façade prend bien la lumière du coucher du soleil et est très bien éclairée la nuit.

The cathedral overlooks the zocalo of Campeche, beautiful little square with a kiosk, a park, benches... The cathedral is not exceptional, both inside and outside. A simple décor.
