The oldest carnival in Mexico. Colorful parades and paper mache pirate, symbol of bad mood, to burn !

The walled city of Campeche is the seat of the oldest carnival in the country (1582). The festivities begin about forty days before Easter and last about ten days. The main activities of the carnival are of course the parade in disguise in the streets and the election of the kings and queens, but the carnival is the pretext for many other activities: concerts, dance shows, gastronomic bazaar, etc. During Carnival, the Campechanos have the custom of burning a papier-mâché pirate, which symbolizes bad temper.
