CARNAVAL DE CAMPECHE

The oldest carnival in Mexico. Colorful parades and paper mache pirate, symbol of bad mood, to burn !
The walled city of Campeche is home to the country's oldest carnival (1582). The festivities begin around forty days before Easter and last for around ten days. Carnival highlights include the street parade and the election of kings and queens, but there's much more to it than that: concerts, dance performances, gourmet bazaars and more. During Carnival, Campechanos burn a papier-mâché pirate, a symbol of bad temper, to bid farewell.
