CARNAVAL

The most important carnival in Mexico takes place in the port of Veracruz. However, other cities also celebrate Carnival, such as Mazatlán, Mérida and Campeche. The festivities most often include a costume parade, concerts and various cultural activities, but in some Mexican villages the celebration remains much more traditional and popular. This is the case in the town of Ocozocautla, in Chiapas. Here the carnival has its origins in a pre-Hispanic rite, through which the Zoque Indians paid homage to their gods.
