With some 200,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city on the coast and above all the industrial port that competes with Manzanillo for the top spot in the national maritime trade. The area is not very funky and the only attraction for the locals is perhaps the twenty kilometres of coastal fringe that stretches to Playa Azul. There have been a few attempts to develop mass tourism infrastructure around the creation of casinos, but the projects have stalled. For those who travel by bus or plane, your stay will be limited to changing your mode of transportation to a more attractive destination.
