REPLICA OF THE UNDERGROUND TEMPLE OF TIWANAKU
Reproduction of the underground temple of Tiwanaku inaugurated in 1943, houses a copy of the Bennet monolith and inlaid heads
Inaugurated in 1943, this reproduction of the underground temple of Tiwanaku houses a copy of the colossal Bennet monolith and inlaid heads. This open-air museum originally housed the real Bennet Monolith, but in 2002 it had to be returned to the Tiwanaku Museum of Art, due to the numerous damages caused by the city's pollution and the ransacking by demonstrators. Explanatory panels are placed around the Plaza.
