Formerly used to transport goods, this canal is now used by tourists to visit the mangrove swamps.
The Canal des Rotours was dug in 1827 by slaves, on the initiative of Baron des Rotours, to open up Morne-à-l'eau to Pointe-à-Pitre. It was a real step forward for the commune, enabling it to develop as a transit route for goods. Sugar factories were built along the canal. Up to 20 dwellings were built along the canal. Today, the canal has a tourist function, and is used by private companies to visit the mangrove, making it an important asset in the commune's tourist economy.
