A poetic name like a song for this rural commune, with the hills of Grands-Fonds in the background and a landscape that extends as far as the Grand Cul-de-sac marin. Morne-à-l'Eau is slowly coming into its own. This once important sugar-producing commune takes its name from the rather unattractive brown canal that drains the fishing boats with the day's catch. Today, its resources are food crops, livestock and, to a lesser extent, fishing, as well as a few tourist activities around Vieux-Bourg and the mangrove swamps. The Crab Festival, held in April, is a popular annual event.
