FÊTE DU CRABE

Easter weekend is a crab-fest throughout the archipelago. Land crabs are sold on roadsides by occasional fishermen. Harvesting of this species tends to extend throughout the year, threatening the land crab population.

The commune of Morne-à-l'Eau dedicates a special festival to this species. Crab-themed events include recipes such as matété, stuffed crab and calalou. National Park staff are on hand to raise public awareness of the need to preserve this species.
