Located about 1,000 metres above Ugine, the Battery Fort, also known as the Alpettaz blockhouse, built in 1886 at an altitude of 1,444 metres, could accommodate 60 men whose mission was to defend the valley's positions against possible Italian aggression. Motivated volunteers have been working for years to transform this place into a friendly refuge. In summer, the fort is open to the public and the area is ideal for many activities... In winter, you can reach the fort by snowshoeing, after a short but steep ascent... If the flag is raised, it means that the fort is open.
