ASSO. THE FRIENDS OF THE BOURBNNAISE MOUNTAIN
Recently refurbished site with a traditional basketry in Mayet-de-Montagne, offering a fun and interactive visit.
This recently refurbished site responds to the desire to discover the traditional basketry on the territory. This activity was a family activity and was made from hazelnut, chestnut, straw and wicker which grow well in the climate of the Montagne Bourbonnaise. This museum is one of the four museums in France dedicated to ancient, traditional and utilitarian basketry. The visit is fun and interactive, punctuated by videos and well-designed explanatory panels. You will discover nearly 1,000 pieces of basketry staged according to the themes of daily life at the time: war, health, bakery, rural world, fishing ... 150 basket makers' tools and miniature objects are also on display. Outside, you will find an oseraie (from the Latin salicetum) maintained by the local horticultural school. Picnic tables allow you to have lunch in the sun.
