Created in 1904 by Frédéric Mistral in Arles, the Festo Vierginenco is dedicated to young girls over 15 years of age who wear the adult costume of Arles for the first time. Originally, Mistral initiated this event to revive and enhance the wearing of traditional costume. This great festival organized by the Nacioun gardiano is perpetuated every year during the month of July in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
