The Jean Cocteau Museum - Séverin Wunderman Collection reopens its doors to the public by simultaneously inaugurating two new displays. The first, "A poet's approach" highlights all the creative stages through which a poet passes; the other exhibition, "De acquis confusis" presents the temporary space according to Frédérique Nalbandian.

A poet's approach

The new museographic journey will be divided into five sequences with one common thread: Cocteau poet

From the "birth" of the poet in literary salons, introduced by Edouard de Max, to the often misunderstood artist who identifies with mythological characters, the hanging reveals an intimate and confidential Jean Cocteau who defines himself first and foremost as a poet, whatever medium he approaches. From writing to cinematography, poetry permeates his work: theatre poetry, novel poetry, film poetry...

Artistic encounters are important milestones in his creative work

Guillaume Apollinaire, the Group of Six, Raymond Radiguet..

The last sequence opens with Jean Cocteau's dreamlike universe and the mysterious world of Beauty and the Beast. This poetic world is populated by a bestiary peculiar to the artist at the borders of dreams and inspired by fairy tales

Of confusing acquaintance

Frédérique Nalbandian at the Jean Cocteau Museum Séverin Wunderman collection adds fluidity to the clear lines of Rudy Ricciotti's architecture. It brings the liquid element, the fragility of the material and the transparency of the water surfaces that play with the horizon. Oscillating between the gracefulness of the line and the impressive mass of his soap sculptures, a play is established between these exchanges of stability and lightness, between durability and ephemerality

There is therefore a dialogue of matters, to which is added here an impregnation of the senses. Sounds of drops of water flowing over the soap, cutting into this almost human flesh, turning into traces similar to projections of the universe. Frédérique Nalbandian thus installs, in the temporary exhibition space, a world of subtle observation of her environment and a very Cocteau-like elegance in the representation, a way of taming words and signs, a preciousness in the choice of techniques

Then comes the rose, which, in addition to inspiring us with a subtle perfume that only evokes the word, establishes another dialogue, from the garden of Beauty and the Beast

Finally, the poetry for these words, inspired by Jean Cocteau, engraved on the three blown glass containers, which rhythm their water line to the horizon line in the distance, creating a mirror image
