The Musée de Forcalquier was created in the former convent of the Visitandines (now the town hall) by the then mayor, Martial Sicard, in 1912. Today, it shares the premises with Forcalquier town hall. Classified as a "Musée de France", it houses permanent collections from state deposits, donations and bequests from benefactors. The museum's themes include the archaeology and culture of Haute Provence, with exhibits testifying to human occupation and development since prehistoric times. As for the fine arts, discover Amédée Martin's unique 1836 painting of Forcalquier, or the ex-voto of the 1772 pilgrimage to Fougères, classified as a historic monument. You'll also be able to admire displays of period costumes and earthenware (including some rare pieces from Mane and Forcalquier, whose manufacture has now disappeared). Furniture testifying to the quality of Bas-Alpine cabinetmaking, objects from everyday life of yesteryear and religious objects, complete the inventory. Not to mention contemporary art collections, including Lucien Henri's 30-year art history 1958-1988. And every year, the museum presents a new SUMMER exhibition: in 2016 "Coiffes et Costumes en Haute-Provence", in 2017 "Les Peintres du Midi", in 2018 "Musique et Art", and in 2019 "Exposition Lucien Jacques, peintre et poète". In 2022, the "Serge Fiorio" exhibition showcased the painter's colorful decors.
