Discover fossils and ancient footprints near Digne.
After visiting the museum-walk, go one kilometer in the direction of the Barles caves. You will be able to see this 320m2 slab of more than 1 550 ammonite fossils. The largest are 70 cm in diameter, proof that the sea covered the Digne region about 200 million years ago. The site, renovated in 2019, offers many explanatory panels to immerse yourself in history. Further along the road, you will discover the skeleton of the ichthyosaurus of the Robine, bird footprints older than 20 million years. Exceptional!

Remarkable slab located along the road, it is difficult to miss if you passes in front. One is thoughtful in front of the layers accumulated there are so long... ammonites of sizes imposing and in large number
The best at Digne-Les-Bains and around
