The current church was built on the same site and thus fixes the position of the village

La Bussière is crossed on the east by the Gartempe. Traces of human occupation are ancient in the commune. La Bussière is mentioned around 1075 in the cartulary of the abbey of Saint-Cyprien de Poitiers and the Romanesque church is mentioned in 1211.
