CHAPELLE SAINTE-BERTHE

Built in the ^12th century, the Sainte-Berthe chapel in Filain bears witness to a rich past, despite the destruction it has undergone. Associated with a spring renowned for its curative virtues, it was once a place of pilgrimage. Rebuilt after fires in 1814 and 1918, it was also restored in 1871. The spur of Sainte-Berthe was at the heart of the Battle of Malmaison in October 1917. Commemorative plaques honor the combatants, including those of the ^19th Battalion of Chasseurs and the ^283rd Infantry Regiment.
