La Chaume, the oldest district of Les Sables-d'Olonne, occupied since the Gallo-Roman era

The oldest district of Les Sables-d'Olonne, since it has been occupied since Gallo-Roman times. It was the district of the fishermen. La Chaume was attached to Sables-d'Olonne in 1753. One can appreciate the charm of the maze of alleys sheltering small typical low houses. To visit La Chaume from Les Sables, take the maritime shuttle to cross the channel. Enjoy the beautiful view from the Saint-Nicolas priory, at the end of the harbour channel. Guided tours of the district from April to October (duration: 2 hours). Ask at the tourist office.

A faire de préférence avec le guide, ce fut 2 heures tres enrichissante, en fait avec les enfants. Voir ces ruelles et ces histoires de marin, on fait des moments inoubliables

Incontournable quand on vient aux Sables, ce quartier de pêcheurs à découvrir à pieds tellement les ruelles sont étroites pour découvrir les maisons de pêcheurs, entendre les chaumois...
A ne pas rater, la rue de l'Amour et d'autres rues aux noms insolites que je vous laisse découvrir
Balade à finir dans un café ou un resto sur le quai face au chenal pour voir les bateaux arriver et partir....

il y a beaucoup de charme dans ce quartier. A visiter!

Chaume is a typical district of sailors. narrow streets, small houses with lots of charm. walk a day's weather and market on the dock and under the halles: conviviality obligatory! take the air, park in Port Olona and pass through the quay, the Saint Nicolas priory, and enjoy the blue road: a real delight!
