CHÂTEAU DE LA GARNACHE
This castle, rich in history, is one of the oldest in the Vendée region, with six semi-circular towers from the period.
One of Vendée's oldest castles, it was once a stronghold of the Bas-Poitou region. First known lords: Gauthier and Goscelin in 1055. Six Pierre de la Garnache succeeded each other from 1070 to 1214. Olivier IV and V de Clisson, lords at the same time, served and sometimes betrayed in wars. The seigneury passed to the Rohans in 1408. René de Rohan married Isabelle d'Albret, spreading Protestantism. Henri IV stayed at the château in 1588. Louis XIII ordered its destruction in 1622 during the Wars of Religion. Of the six semicircular towers, two remain.
