ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH
A building with a square tower in Coulaines, featuring two bas-reliefs and four statues, used for religious services
Saint-Nicolas church was built in the 12th century. In the 14th century, a square tower was added to the building, in which a bell called Gertrude was rung. This tower, remarkable for its specific shape, would have served as a watchtower and defense tower. Until the 19th century, the church was surrounded by three cemeteries, one of which was reserved for children. Since 1940, the church has been listed as a Monument Historique. The interior features two bas-reliefs and four statues, also listed as Monuments Historiques, as well as magnificent14th-century stained-glass windows. Regularly restored, the building continues to host religious services.
