POINT INFORMATION DU SITE DES GROTTES ET DU CANYON
Information point offering to help visitors discover the Saulges Caves, their rock formations, and their unique cave paintings.
As a haven of hunters 30,000 years ago, the caves of Saulges have not succeeded in moving visitors. Only two visited the seventeen identified today: the Rochefort Cave and the Cave to Margot. The cave in Rochefort is staggering: A set of lights highlights the rocky walls, the concretions, and the abyss. It was probably first occupied 90,000 years ago, then 16,000 years ago by the Solutréens. They are the probable authors of the superb cave paintings that adorn the Mayenne-Science cave; You can admire their reproduction at the entrance to the Le Canyon restaurant, just a few steps away, because the cave is closed to the public for the protection of its archaeological works.
