Built in the time of Hugues Capet by Foulques Nerra, Count of Anjou, then extended over the centuries, this perfectly maintained citadel overlooks the Thouet. The former chapel, which became a collegiate chapel in the 15th century, served by 4 canons, then a parish church in the 19th century, is freely accessible.

Still inhabited, the castle has survived the Hundred Years' War, several successive sieges, the religious wars, the French Revolution (it was then a prison for monarchist women), the First World War. Once past the ramparts, the one-hour guided tour will take you from the cellars to the furnished interiors, evocative of historical characters. You will also visit the medieval kitchen with a central fireplace, in perfect condition. Outside you will notice the very original architecture of the canons' houses, and above all you will admire the views that you get from the 600 metres of ramparts. Last but not least: the estate has 16 hectares of vines and the wine from the property is sold there. Visitors can therefore taste Red or White brine, Cabernet d'Anjou and Crémant de Loire. A very beautiful and good visit!
