The role of the Société de Protection des animals du Maine-et-Loire is to collect animals wandering on the public road and to take care of it within its refuge. It also undertakes to intervene, by means of judicial actions, if necessary, with the owners to land their animals. Finally, it encourages citizens to adopt the animals it accommodates, because its premises do not allow for more than 150. It should be noted that this SPA is in close contact with public institutions, such as town halls or gendarmerie and municipal police.
