It was in 1885 that the mayor of the town, Henri de La Biliais, created the Société des Courses de Machecoul. Since then, it has constantly improved the quality of the reception of its public and professionals. With some 70 volunteers, the committee is always very ambitious and does everything possible to ensure that the show is a success during the eight annual race meetings organized in the three disciplines: trotting, flat and steeple-chase. On the border of the Loire-Atlantique and the Vendée, built on a sandy ground that guarantees its flexibility, this racecourse runs at the beginning and end of the season, allowing trotters and gallopers to prepare their summer or winter objectives. The Chaumes racecourse and its training centre cover 25 hectares in the heart of the Retz region. The quality of the trotting track (classified in 1st category) allows the organisation of two PHH races (off-race betting) per year. The stands can accommodate up to 3,000 people. The place has a restaurant, a restaurant service and a refreshment bar.
