LE CHÂTEAU DU PÉ
Castle between Nantes and Pornic offering guest rooms reflecting contemporary art and unusual decor
Do you like contemporary art? Do you like unusual places? Then head for Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, a small town ideally located between Nantes and Pornic. In the middle of a 7 hectare wooded park, a pretty 18th century tufa castle opens its doors to you and offers six guest rooms. Only twenty minutes from Nantes, we find ourselves in a quiet place, in the middle of the countryside. Designed by six artist couples as part of the 2011 Biennale d'art contemporain Estuaire, they are all more unusual than the others. Each couple had carte blanche to answer the following question: "What does the word room mean to you? ». A place of dreams, nightmares, anguish for some; of desire, love, sexuality or even of reading and storytelling for others... In "Saturnia Pyri", the bed is hidden under a hatch. In "La grande question", plaster mouldings evoke foetuses. In the "Antechamber", the furniture houses texts. In "Is it safe to send messages to aliens", the walls are covered with framed insects. In "There was a bad tree", a painting presents a singular sound story. In Nebelglanz, red dominates... So, what universe will you experience during a night or a stay? On each floor, the Surprenantes team has set up pretty common lounges where you can chat on the couch, watch a movie on TV or get lost in the pages of a book nestled under a blanket. In the park, in front of the castle, another work of art. A bench dominates the water surface, sitting on it activates a jet of water.
