These fishing huts on stilts equipped with a square net (carrelet) are a symbol of the Loire-Atlantique coast. The fisheries are the decor of the Jade coast and the Loire estuary, giving a singular charm to the coastline. Their origin dates back to the Middle Ages, when the owners did not own the site on which they stand, the latter being the public maritime domain. The request for occupation must be renewed every year. And for those who are curious, you should know that some of them can be rented for the duration of a tide!
