THE GARDENS OF THE BISHOPRIC
The gardens of the Bishopric, perched on the belvedere overlooking the Agout, offer a remarkable view of the Saint-Roch bridge
Perched on a belvedere overlooking the River Agout, the gardens of the Évêché offer an exceptional panorama of the Saint-Roch bridge, an imposing stone structure built between 1773 and 1791. The palace and its outbuildings were destroyed during the French Revolution. Owned by the commune in 1852, the site was transformed into an English garden in 1857. Initially named Jardin Las Cases, in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte's confidant on St. Helena (with the installation of a statue in 1865), it was later renamed Jardins de l'Évêché.
