Culture Castres

Castres is a town in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. For newcomers to the town, the Association Accueil des Villes Françaises (AVF) de Castres offers a warm welcome and practical information. The AVF also organizes a variety of cultural events, outings, sports and festive activities for its members. For example, it recently organized a hike to Massaguel and a visit to the Missegle workshop. The Castres AVF also organizes trips, such as the one to Italy to visit the Amalfi Coast. In addition to these activities, the Castres AVF offers workshops such as oenology and theater.

As the birthplace of Jean Jaurès, Castres was duty-bound to pay tribute to him. Initially created in 1954 at the town hall, the national center has occupied a space of its own since 1988. Inaugurated by François Mitterrand, it pays homage to the illustrious tribune, with a museographic trail retracing the major sequences of his life, and a display of manuscripts, books and other iconographic documents relating to the man and to history from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
