THÉÂTRE MUNICIPAL
Located near the bishop's garden, the Municipal Theatre is a magnificent Italian-inspired monument, inaugurated in 1904. The exterior façade has been recently restored and has returned to its former glory. His silhouette was born from the spirit of the architect Galinier, a student of Garnier (designer of the Paris Opera). In the dome, a trompe-l'oeil depicting a torn awning shows scenes of classic tragedies: Oedipus and Antigone, Athalia and Prometheus, next to which Hamlet invites himself. The Castres theatre has the only dome painted by Jean-Paul Laurens.
In the Art Nouveau style, but borrowing from the styles of past centuries, it opens its doors to the Castraise cultural scene. With a capacity of six hundred seats, its acoustics makes it a place of excellence for opera, theatre and dance performances. It also hosts photographic exhibitions in its galleries and various festivals in the city.
