Labelled as a remarkable garden, you will discover the 50,000 plants in flower beds, and will surely describe it as unforgettable. A true archway of a lush and tamed nature, the Jardin Massey is both the lung of the city and its most precious heart. In the middle of its soft green lawns, alleys meander, lined with secular trees. Siberian elms, giant sequoias, magnolias with large flowers or maples cast their beneficial shade, some of them for 150 years. Two lakes and streams running over pebbles attract birds and turtles. Peacocks seduce passers-by with their shimmering feathers in front of the orange grove with its beautiful architecture. A small animal park with dwarf goats is a delight for the little ones, who also have fun in the playground dedicated to them. The bandstand comes to life in summer and the cloister of Saint-Sever de Rustan, whose capitals date back to the 15th century, makes it a timeless site. Created in the 19th century by the illustrious botanist and horticulturist Placide Massey, it retains the precious romanticism of the director of the Trianon Park in Versailles, which is expressed magnificently by the great variety of species and rare species. At his death, he bequeathed this English-style garden of 114,870 m² and his residence to the city of which he was a native. The Jardin Massey is also home to the International Hussar Museum, a magnificent building with Hispano-Moorish influences: a major site not to be missed.
