This building is the only church in the department to have an underground crypt
The church of Sainte-Marie de Madiran, an emblematic Romanesque building, offers a unified volume reflecting a desire for community unity. Featuring a nave without aisles and a coffered vault following an alleged fire, it also boasts a distinctively decorated chapel (Saint-Benoît). The church's choir displays symbolic Romanesque sculptures. Special features include an underground crypt, unique in the département, and a singular holy-water font. Its history dates back to 1030, with evidence of constant renovation.
