The town center is home to a number of "fortified houses" - miniature castles in the middle of town

Valence-sur-Baïse stone brings out the character and authenticity of this medieval bastide. In the last third of the 12th century, the town center acquired several "maisons fortes", miniature castles in the middle of the town, complete with towers and watchtowers. One of the most remarkable is located on a large stretch of rue Jules-Ferry and rue Louis-Pasteur: it's the ancient home of the de Faulong family, several generations of whom provided illustrious cavalry officers: a vocation, from father to son!
