A surprising tower with three walls and no roof, in the heart of the pretty half-timbered streets of the medieval village of Tillac.
The presence of these two important elements of fortification evokes the extent of the castelnau in the Middle Ages. The towers of Mirande and Rabastens were linked by a fortified wall that guaranteed a certain security to the inhabitants. They were the only two points of access to the village. The Tower of Rabastens has a surprising configuration. Also called "Tower open to the throat", made up of only 3 walls, without roof, it closed in a fabulous trap on the assailants who could neither settle nor camouflage themselves there.

Petit castelnau médiéval dont subsistent deux tours, une église, et une rue principale avec de belles maisons à colombages. La perspective est superbe car on n’embrasse d’un seul regard tout le village. Sous l’ancien lavoir a été reconstituée une petite officine d’apothicaire (ancêtre de nos pharmacies), malheureusement fermée lors de notre visite mais dont vous pouvez avoir un aperçu sur le site web de la commune.

Tillac possède ces 2 tours stupéfiantes, l'une (la tour de Rabastens) constituant la porte d'entrée du village, l'autre située à l'autre bout. Mais pour compléter le tableau, les rues du village offrent un extraordinaire exemple de colombages, encorbellements et arcades qui lui confère toute sa magie.
