An imposing church in Mouchan, dedicated to Saint Austregésile, with some older elements, dating from the beginning of the 11th century
Dedicated to Saint Austrégésile (bishop of Bourges in the 6th century), the imposing church is classified as a Cluniac site (the3rd in the Midi-Pyrénées). It is one of the oldest in the department since the tower, the oldest datable element, dates from the beginning of the 11th century. It would have originally served as a watchtower. In 1089, the priory was given to the order of Cluny, then the most powerful in Christendom. The monks abandoned the place in 1581 and the church was not refurbished until the 17th century.
