FONTAINE DIANE
Fountain hidden under the city walls, a vast vaulted basin with a double ogival opening closed by a grid
The 13th-century fountain, classified as a historic monument, is hidden beneath the ramparts. It consists of a vast vaulted basin, with a double ogival arch opening closed by a wrought-iron gate. Its walls were once adorned with mural frescoes, which can still be seen today. It is likely that the fountain was dedicated to a deity as early as antiquity, and that a temple to Jupiter was built above it. François-Paul Alibert, who accompanied André Gide on his visit in 1907, dedicated a poem to the fountain: À la source Fontélie.
