Petit Futé's opinion on MUSEE DE L'ARMAGNAC

Vintage plate 2020

Set in the outbuildings of the ancient episcopal palace, a stone's throw from the cathedral, the court and the sub-prefecture, this museum founded by the Archivist Henri Polge in 1954 recounts the history of the Gascon beverage par Excellence, such spirits as good for inner life: armagnac. You will discover that, from the Middle Ages, this liqueur was exported to Bayonne or Bordeaux, as well as invigorating pilgrims moving to Santiago de Compostela. But it was at the beginning of the th century, thanks to its watercourse, La, which was made navigable after some construction work, that Condom became the capital of Armagnac trading at the expense of Eauze. From soil to distillation, everything is explained to you. A projection room allows you to discover, in several languages, the ancient history and manufacture of Armagnac, since it is the oldest eau de vie in France, formerly known as the "burning aygue" and is reputed to cure many diseases (not only digestive!).

Petite visite sympathique les jours de pluie par exemple ! On y découvre les techniques agricoles et vinicoles, la distillation, les vieilles machines utilisées depuis 1800. Sympa pour les amateurs d'Armagnac
