SARTHOU PALM GROVE

An extraordinary garden in Gascony. This 8 ha estate is divided into two parts, one dedicated to the exotic garden and the other to an environmental park. It is an absolutely fabulous place which distils an enchantment from one end to the other, from the palm grove to the tropical greenhouse, to the discovery of several hundreds of species... From the water lily and lotus ponds to the very special conservatory orchard where old local varieties are grown in a natural way, such as the Gascony crimson, the discovery is fascinating. It is an invitation to a walk in the middle of Eden... The history of the palm grove is initially that of a passion shared by two for this plant. It began with the purchase in 1980 of a property including house and garden. From the seeds of the Trachycarpus Fortunei palm (Chinese Palm) and a long selection process, the first plants were planted. Since then, a real palm grove has developed. Every year new compositions and realizations are visible. Children have a treasure hunt and on the botanical walk, surprise installations await them. During the walk, you can discover giant fossil oysters and turtles, you can relax in the hammocks rocked by a boat that serves as a dome or the Gascon farm with its painting exhibition room and its barnyard as well as the contemporary art sculptures. A visit which is really worth the detour!
